Waiting for an electric vehicle to charge can test anyone’s patience. Even as public charging stations become faster, drivers still face those 20-30 minute pauses where they’re unsure how to pass the time. Some scroll through their phones, reply to emails, or catch a quick nap. Polestar, however, has found a creative solution: turning that downtime into an engaging gaming experience.

The Swedish EV manufacturer has partnered with the globally popular geography game GeoGuessr to create the GeoGuessr Polestar Edition, a unique version tailored specifically for its vehicles. In this version, players are placed on some of Europe’s most picturesque driving routes, where they must identify their exact location. Their challenge is familiar to any GeoGuessr fan: determine the exact spot on the map using only visual cues from the surroundings.

Polestar has added an innovative twist that ties the game directly to its EV experience. A digital rear-view mirror, inspired by the one in the new Polestar 4, appears at the top of the screen, showing the world in reverse. This subtle but clever feature increases the difficulty, offering seasoned digital explorers a new challenge while tying the gameplay closely to the brand’s vehicles.

The collaboration highlights the shared Swedish values of innovation and exploration. Daniel Antell, GeoGuessr’s CEO and co-founder, says “the collaboration perfectly supports the company’s mission to transform digital maps into fun and interactive adventures.” For Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller, the “goal is to enhance the in-car experience, particularly during those inevitable charging stops, and provide entertainment that is both interactive and educational.”

In celebration of the launch, Polestar and GeoGuessr are running a Europe-wide competition alongside the 2025 GeoGuessr World Championship Finals in Copenhagen. The contest adds an exciting competitive element for geography enthusiasts and gaming fans alike. The grand prize is an all-expenses-paid trip to Polestar’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, including a full day at a professional test track with a racing driver merging virtual exploration with real-world driving thrills.

While the game is designed with Polestar drivers in mind, it is not exclusive to them. The GeoGuessr Polestar Edition is accessible to everyone and can be played on both smartphones and desktop computers. For Polestar owners, the game is fully integrated into the vehicle’s infotainment system via the built-in web browser, offering a seamless and interactive in-car experience.

Polestar’s ambition goes beyond gaming. The brand currently sells vehicles in 28 markets across North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region, with a growing lineup that includes the Polestar 2 sedan, the Polestar 3 SUV, and the newly launched Polestar 4 SUV coupe. Looking ahead, three more models the Polestar 5, 6, and 7 are planned, expanding the brand’s presence and technological offerings.

By integrating gaming into the EV experience, Polestar is redefining what a car can offer beyond transportation. The collaboration with GeoGuessr shows a focus on technology, innovation, and user engagement, turning what was once idle charging time into an entertaining, skill-testing activity. Whether players are exploring famous European landscapes or testing their geography knowledge against friends, the game encourages learning, exploration, and fun all from the driver’s seat.

Polestar’s initiative is a reminder that EVs are more than vehicles; they are platforms for innovation, entertainment, and connectivity. As drivers spend more time inside their cars, especially while waiting for charging, creative integrations like this can transform routine moments into memorable experiences.
