Monterey Car Week, famed for its pristine lawns, rare automotive icons, and headline-worthy unveilings, witnesses Karma Automotive seizing the spotlight this year with a daring and captivating new debut.
The brand has unveiled its latest creation, the Karma Amaris coupe, claiming it to be the “world’s first Hybrid EREV luxury coupe.” Though some may question the claim, given Karma’s past models and the surge of Chinese Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs), the Amaris undeniably leaves a bold and memorable impression.
At its core, the Karma Amaris isn’t a traditional hybrid. Instead, it’s an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV), which operates differently from the conventional hybrid setup where a gasoline engine and electric motors directly power the wheels. In the Amaris, two rear-mounted electric motors are the sole source of propulsion, drawing energy from a 41.5 kWh battery pack. This setup allows for over 161 km of pure electric driving, according to Karma.

When that battery runs low, a turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine takes over not to drive the wheels, but to act as a generator. It produces electricity to recharge the battery, ensuring the journey can continue without range anxiety. With the engine engaged, the Amaris boasts a total claimed range of more than 644 km, blending the instant power of an EV with the long-distance confidence of a traditional car.
Performance-wise, the Karma Amaris is anything but shy. Delivering a formidable 708 horsepower and 676 lb-ft of torque, the electric motors paired with the generator system provide the Amaris with exceptional performance and rapid acceleration capabilities.
These numbers translate into rapid acceleration, with a 0 to 97 km/h sprint in under 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of 266 km/h. Drivers can expect that signature EV surge of instant torque, paired with the reassurance of knowing that refueling with gasoline can quickly extend the trip.

The design of the Karma Amaris is equally attention-grabbing. Built from lightweight carbon fiber and aluminum, it adopts the brand’s “Comet Line” styling first introduced on the Kaveya concept. The launch model wears a vibrant Solar Blaze Red paint, its long, sculpted hood opening clamshell-style. It rides on striking 22-inch forged aluminum wheels that hint at both performance and luxury.
The Amaris doesn’t just turn heads it puts on a show. Swan doors open upward and outward for a dramatic arrival, while a pass-through rear spoiler enhances aerodynamics. Despite its electric emphasis, the coupe subtly acknowledges its gasoline element with a side-exit exhaust tip, hinting at the hybrid powertrain concealed beneath its sleek exterior.

Inside, the Karma Amaris offers a pure two-seat layout, with the rear space reserved for luggage. The interior is finished in rich Crimson Orbit leather and suede, enhanced by refined carbon fiber details and high-gloss piano black accents.
Technology meets theatrics with an electrochromatic glass roof that changes tint at the push of a button, and customizable ambient lighting tied to driving modes. Adding to the sense of occasion, starting the car requires flipping up a leather-covered panel to reveal the ignition button a small detail, but one that reinforces the car’s sense of drama.
Karma Automotive has ambitious plans for the Amaris. Production is set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 at the company’s Moreno Valley, California facility. As for price, exclusivity comes at a cost expect a starting figure of at least €170,000; $1,98,100; ₹1,73,67,710 making this coupe a high-ticket addition to any garage.
