Onvo Unveils L90 Electric SUV Starting at Just $25,000

Nio has officially rolled out the first model under its new electric car sub-brand, Onvo the L90, a full-size electric SUV tailored for growing families. While new EVs are announced nearly every week, the L90 is making headlines for its remarkably competitive price. Thanks to a battery subscription model, the L90’s starting price is just RMB 179,800 (around €21,300) even more affordable than the Renault 5 in Europe.

Despite its budget-friendly pricing, the Onvo L90 is anything but compact. This full-sized SUV stretches 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,786 mm in height, with a generous 3,110 mm wheelbase. These dimensions allow for a roomy interior, available in both six- and seven-seat configurations ideal for families needing comfort and space on the road.

The Onvo L90 showcases the brand’s signature split headlight design, paired with an aerodynamic silhouette that contributes to an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.25 a standout figure for a vehicle of its size. This sleek styling not only enhances efficiency but also reflects Onvo’s focus on blending practicality with modern aesthetics. Aimed at families and everyday drivers, the L90 prioritizes space, functionality, and cutting-edge features without straying into luxury pricing territory.

Among its most practical highlights is the spacious front trunk, or “frunk,” which Onvo has emphasized in its promotional efforts. Offering 240 liters of storage, the frunk can comfortably accommodate two 20-inch suitcases and a child’s backpack or even a single 30-inch suitcase making it a genuinely useful addition for road trips, daily errands, or family travel.

For everyday use, the Onvo L90 offers practical storage solutions that cater to families. The front frunk offers ample room for a full week’s worth of groceries, while the rear cargo space delivers 430 liters of capacity including a cleverly concealed 106-liter compartment beneath the floor. This intelligent approach to storage highlights Onvo’s clear understanding of what today’s families expect from a practical, full-size electric SUV.

Inside the cabin, comfort is clearly a priority. The front seats come with 12-way power adjustment, offering customizable support for drivers and front passengers. In the second row, optional zero-gravity seats offer 10-way adjustment and plush, aviation-style headrests designed for long-distance comfort. Even the third-row seating often overlooked in many SUVs delivers a respectable 962 mm of headroom and backrests that recline up to 38 degrees, ensuring all passengers enjoy a relaxed ride, no matter where they sit.

To enhance in-cabin comfort for the whole family, the Onvo L90 comes equipped with a built-in mini fridge perfect for road trips or hot days. It can hold up to 12 soda cans and maintains temperatures ranging from 0°C to 50°C. Rear passengers are also well entertained, thanks to a ceiling-mounted 17.3-inch 3K display that folds down when needed, complemented by an additional 8-inch screen. Sound quality doesn’t take a back seat either the L90 boasts a premium 23-speaker, 2,048-watt audio system with Dolby Atmos support for an immersive listening experience.

Under the hood, the Onvo L90 rides on a cutting-edge 900-volt electrical platform, enabling ultra-fast charging capabilities. With its standard 85 kWh battery pack, the L90 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes, making long-distance travel more convenient and less time-consuming.

The Onvo L90 offers impressive range and performance for its price class. The rear-wheel-drive variant of the Onvo L90 delivers a CLTC-rated range of 605 km, while the all-wheel-drive model offers a commendable 570 km providing ample driving distance for both city and long-distance journeys.

Both trims are powered by the same high-performance rear motor found in Nio’s flagship ET9 sedan, producing 340 kW (456 hp). This enables the RWD model to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. The all-wheel-drive variant features a 100 kW (134 hp) front motor that boosts performance, reducing the 0–100 km/h acceleration time to just 4.7 seconds.

By combining generous size, premium features, and strong performance at a competitive price, the L90 is putting serious pressure on rivals. For comparison, the recently launched Li Auto i8 starts at RMB 321,800 (around €38,270), whereas the Onvo L90 when purchased with the battery pack starts at just RMB 265,800 (approximately €31,600), making it a standout value in the growing EV market.

Li Auto faced an immediate market reaction following the i8’s pricing reveal, with its stock value dropping noticeably after the vehicle’s launch. In sharp contrast, even the highest-spec, fully loaded version of the Onvo L90 comes in at a lower price than the entry-level Li Auto i8 highlighting just how aggressively Onvo is carving out a strong position in the highly competitive electric SUV market.
